RADIATION ROOM - 2011 TALENT SEARCH
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR DEMO
-- by Peter Carli -- posted December 23rd, 2010 --

Radiation Room is accepting musician demo submissions through April 1st, 2011. We are looking for musical acts across genres to manage and/or produce in house. (Translation: This soliciation is NOT a pre-screen for a 3rd party.) All demos will be reviewed on a yes/no basis only and no promises, warranties, guarantees or whatever are implied by us reviewing your demo.

We are accepting demos across all genres and styles; country, pop, folk, Christian, triple-A, rock, alternative, hip-hop, r&b, jazz, dance, classical, world music, you-name-it. Our focus is on quality and substance verses style and sound: Translation - Be your best!

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO
  • Step 1: Read and re-read the article, "So You Want To Be A Star.... Now Really?" and re-read it again and seriously ask yourself if you have what it takes to be the next Derek Trucks, Dianne Reeves, Kayne West, P!nk, or Neil Diamond. Please understand that we are dead serious about making our livings making music and we are damn good at it. You need to be dead serious and damn good as well if you expect us to help you go to the next level!

  • Step 2: Make a video of you and/or your band/act performing cover versions of three songs of your choice. While footage of you in front of an audience is preferred, video of a rehearsal is acceptable. It is best to pick songs that are well known within the genre/style of music you perform, or alternately you may pick a classic song from a different genre/style and add your own "twist" to it. Since we are searching for acts who have excellent live performance abilities, we will accept original song demos only from previously screened acts who we request additional material from. (Exception: If you are a hip-hop act, you may perform your original rhymes "freestyle" over backing DJ tracks on your first submission.)

  • Step 3: Make a DVD (preferred) or VHS copy of your demo footage - three songs minimum. Make sure your band/act name, your name, telephone number, and email address are affixed/labeled clearly and directly on your DVD or VHS. Jewel boxes and tape cases can and sometimes do get lost, and there is nothing more frustrating than having a killer demo and not knowing who it belongs to. Make sure that you send us a copy and not the original of your video since we do not return demos.

    • NOTE: We do not accept demos on USB sticks or digital media cards at this time. Yeah, stick memory is k3wl but honestly with all the computer virii going around we're not going to risk giving our network a case of the W32.klez by inserting unknown media into it. We do not accept demos via email or FTP at this time for the same reason. Sorry....

    • If you have a studio CD, please include it with your video demo.

  • Last step: You will also need to include information about your act/group. What kind of music you perform and the area of the country you perform in. Your act's bio, newspaper tear sheets, printouts of internet commentary, and photos of you and your members, both head shots and gig pix are helpful. When you have all of your materials together, contact us by email at the address listed on our contact page. You will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. DO NOT SEND US ANYTHING WITHOUT A CONFIRMATION EMAIL PRINTOUT! We do not accept unsolicited materials!

When you snail-mail us your demo, it is best for you to wrap it as "Taxi Style Burrito". Make sure you include a printout of the confirmation email and make sure that printout is on top and plainly visible. Place the band bio, pix, tear sheets and other material underneath it in the same fashion and place your DVD or videotape at the bottom. Then when you roll it up the confirmation email printout will end up on the outside, and we will know exactly who you are when we open it up. Those of you who have watched us do a demo screening know just how many hundreds of envelopes, press kits, and tapes/DVDs can pile up in short order. All of these little rules help us get to your work quickly and help us give your demo a more thorough review.

At this time we are accepting demos from The United States of America only and will give preferential treatment to submissions from acts in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio, New York, and the New England States.

We will notify you by email or telephone call if we like what we hear & see and want to talk with you. No SASE needed. Yes it's that easy!

NOTE: Do not send money. There is no fee, bribe, payola, or other
cash transaction required to submit your demo to this solicitation.
